Thermoplastic composites are an important part of the composites industry. Above average increases in production figures over the last few years show that thermoplastic composites are extremely beneficial and have a large number of state-of-the-art properties.
AVK, the Federation of Reinforced Plastics, therefore held a seminar together with the European Alliance for Thermoplastic Composites (EATC), providing insights with practical examples into the diversity of thermoplastic composites. Attended by over 40 participants and speakers, the seminar took place at the EATC member company BYK-Chemie GmbH in Wesel from 27 to 28 May 2019. The international audience came from numerous European countries, including Russia. A wide range of talks were held by high-calibre speakers, all of them members of the EATC, on a variety of material aspects of thermoplastic compounds, such as fibres, different lengths, additives and matrix materials. The seminar also included a close look at manufacturing processes and their latest trends as well as information about the necessary equipment. The first day of the seminar concluded with the first part of several talks on product design and applications. The evening offered a good opportunity to chat over dinner, strengthen relationships and ask further questions.
The second day was a continuation of the topic of product design and applications. The focus was on short, long and continuous fibres as well as on applications involving natural fibres. After the seminar there was enough time for follow-up over a final lunch.
The seminar is held regularly every year. If you are interested in coming to the next event in 2020, please contact AVK – Industrievereinigung Verstärkte Kunststoffe e. V. in Frankfurt am Main. www.avk-tv.de.
